Great skin is not just about genes, maintaining a healthy looking skin requires effort and consistency with your routine. You need time to reap the benefits when it comes to skincare, keep going until you see results and make it into a daily habit. I believe there is no 'one size fits all', because there are many conditions and scenarios. What works for me may not necessarily work for you. Our skin requires different approach at different times and seasons. It all comes down to what works for your skin.
I’m sharing with you the products I currently use that have significantly made a difference.
Age: Mid-forties
Skin type: Dry ( genetic )
Concerns: Thirsty and ageing skin
Season: Summer/ Autumn
1. Sioris Cleanse Me Softly Milk Cleanser
I am normally not a big fan of the texture of a Milk Cleanser but this cleanser stole my heart. The creamy texture doesn't feel tacky. It is very gentle which I like to use in the morning as my skin isn’t very dirty from a night’s sleep. I like that it isn’t drying or stripping to my skin. A few pumps of the product on dry hands, gently massage and rinse off with cold water makes my skin feeling nourished and refreshed.
I mix it with Sioris scrub once a week to gently exfoliate my skin.
2. Pyunkang Yul Essense Toner
After cleansing my skin, I use the toner to keep my skin hydrated. This toner contains nutrient-boosting properties to deliver an extra shot of hydration my skin needs. The essence toner can be used for 7-skin-method. It is my all-time favourite.
3. Neogen Ferment Micro Essence
This step is something I absolutely love! It helps me to give that instant glow. My favourite ingredient Birch Sap helps to make skin plumped after one use. The essence contains natural ingredients to make my skin appear healthy and supple. I use it 2-3 times a week.
4. Vegreen Mucin Serum
Vegreen Mucin Serum provides intense hydration to my skin and improve its elasticity. The texture feels like snail slime but it's made of Wild Yam extracts. It's fast-absorbing and non-sticky which makes it super light-weight. What I love about Vegreen is that it derives its Phyto Mucin from Wild Yams instead of snail mucin. So for the vegan lovers, this is definitely a great alternative to boost hydration without animal-derived ingredients.
5. A By Bom Eye Serum
The eye contour is your calling card and is the first area to show signs of aging. I never skip this step in order to maintain a more youthful appearance. To reduce puffiness and dark circles around the eye area, I use the A. By Bom Eye Serum. This product reduces the appearance of fine lines, making the eye area looking livelier and healthier.
6. Benton Fermented Eye Cream
I like to do double eye-care day and night. Combining with the eye serum, I apply the Benton Fermented Eye Cream to lock the moisture. The anti-aging properties of this product makes my eye area look bright and youthful. Its combination with the A By Bom Eye Serum is my go-to for eye area regimen.
7. Vegreen 730 Moisturizer
Vegreen 730 Moisturizer is my go-to moisturizer. It's extremely gentle, light-weight but yet powerful to keep my dry skin moisture all day long. The product contains skin-friendly ingredients and it's completely safe to use for me and my 6 year old daughter.
8. TOUN28 Sunscreen for Dry Skin
If you don’t want to age a day in your lifetime, don’t skip the sunscreen! In my case, I use the TOUN28 Sunscreen to ensure it really protects my skin when I have too much sun exposure and working behind the laptop all day. This sunscreen is very challenging when it comes to applying on skin as it seems to give off white cast. I have heard many complaints about it but it is by far one of the effective sunscreen I have used as it prevents me from getting hyper-pigmentation during hot and sunny days. To bring the best out of this product, I keep patting for about two minutes until it’s fully absorbed, spray some mist and then pat again for absorbing. Voila, no more white cast and full gear protection! Aside from its SPF 50+ PA ++++ factor, this product protects me from blue light and ultraviolet rays.
9. Hyggee All-in-One Mist
To instantly soothe my skin, I spray my face with the Hyggee All-in-One Mist. The mist is always in my handbag, it's my must-have that keeps me feeling fresh on the go. The product is light-weight with cooling and hydrating effect. What I love about this product is that it contains one of my favourite ingredient which is Birch Sap that creates a real boost of hydration for my skin.
Final thoughts:
Trying to figure out practices that work has cultivated my passion to learn more about my skin and how best to embrace it. Too many steps can be overwhelming. For those who find it time consuming, you can reduce steps to cleansing, toner, eye serum/ eye cream, moisturizer and SPF. Skincare is supposed to be fun, so don't let yourself get stressed out. Your skin, your rules.
Tips that might be useful:
I pat dry my skin with soft thin tissue after cleansing so it doesn’t strip off natural oil of my skin.
I splash my face with cold water to rinse off the cleanser. It helps firm my skin.
I switch up skincare and tweak here and there to get most benefits.
I use skincare and sheet mask for my neck as well.
